STUDENT WORK, 2019

A chapbook was created using the transcript from Alison Ledgerwood's TEDx talk about developing a positive outlook. Applying the findings from a 2013 experiment by Errol Morris and The New York Times in which Helvetica and Baskerville were indicated as the least and most reliable typefaces respectively, the text was typeset in either of the two fonts based on its positive or negative connotations.

Black and white, in addition to the type selections, were used contrastingly to represent two emotional extremes. The modular typeface, inspired by maze configurations, was designed to represent the repetitive and frustrating feelings that are often associated with negative thoughts.
